Time Warner Cable is now forcing customers to rent modems

11/15/2012

Placing a premium on lousy customer service and cutthroat pricing, cable companies are hated by all and tolerated only because we are a society that believes it cannot live without television or Internet access. In a move only a cable giant can have the temerity to make, Time Warner Cable recently began charging customers a $3.95 "lease" fee for modems, and (according to court documents) told subscribers the only other approved modems are Motorola models that are more expensive than what it offers. The company has now been hit by a pair of lawsuits, which allege the fees are illegal and calling the scheme out as what we think it is a shameless attempt to make more money. Patrick Stewart can relate. [Source]
