Well, crap, Shitterton voted the most embarrassing place to live

8/15/2012

Sorry, Crapstone. Maybe next year, Golden Balls. The tiny village of Shitterton, in rural Dorset, England, has won the title of most unfortunate place name in Britain. In the super-scientific survey conducted by genealogy website Find My Past, Shitterton beat other snicker-worthy destinations to take the top prize. The little thatched-roof settlement was given its name in the 11th century due to its proximity to a large sewer. "Sh*t is sh*t … that is where the name comes from," Parish council president Ian Ventham said, adding that the village “isn’t a sh*theap now” and “those of us who live here are not the least bit embarrassed by it."
