Tom Cruise threatens to sue tabloid over lurid cover story

The TomKat split gets more dramatic every day. Now Tom Cruise is threatening to sue the National Enquirer for a cover story that showed a photo of Cruise yelling (plus a morose-looking Katie Holmes) with the accompanying headline, "Inside Tom's HOUSE OF HORRORS!" That depiction didn’t make Mr. Cruise very happy, and his lawyer, Bert Fields, fired off a response threatening legal action. Fields dubs the Enquirer piece "disgraceful and lurid" and believes it will cost Cruise "hundreds of million of dollars of professional and personal damages.” But Cruise and friends were threatening to sue the Enquirer even before the story hit the stands, asserting that it is "the most defamatory cover the Enquirer has ever done."
