Guard at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stands fast as Sandy approaches

10/29/2012

Hurricane Sandy has resulted in school closures, Starbucks closures and even Louis CK comedy show closures as it pummels the East Coast. But not everyone is running for cover. The sentinels at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier don't get days off, and they aren't interested in taking them, thank you very much. A picture of three guards standing fast against sheets of rain went viral this morning online. However, the Old Guard, the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment tasked with guarding the tomb, pointed out that the pic was actually taken during a storm last September. For clarification, it posted the above pic of Spc. Brett Hyde keeping guard over the tomb in the rain this morning. [Source]
