Canada tempts fate with tornado-driven power plant

12/30/2012

Canada, our neighbor to the north previously best known for moose and politeness, has undertaken a daring new project. They are harnessing the power of a tornado and using it for the good of mankind. A group of Canadian scientists are developing a power plant that will run off of an atmospheric vortex engine, which uses a tornado-like vortex to access the latent heat in water. As the warm air hits the vortex, it's convected upwards, turning turbines and generating power. Of course, this type of engine would work best in a tropical climate — not Canada — so don't expect to see any tornado-driven Zambonis anytime soon. [Source]
