Tourism officials want to sue weatherman for bad forecast

7/6/2012

If you can't stand the heat, just try to sue the weatherman. That seems to be the plan for a Belgian tourism board that is unhappy with a private weather bureau's July forecast that predicts only five days above 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees for us Fahrenheiters) along the country's coast. On top of that, the service predicts rainy weather for the first two weeks of August. Daniel Despiegelaere, head of tourism in the coastal town of Knokke-Heist says the gloomy assessments have resulted in immediate cancellations from travelers hoping to enjoy more pleasant climes, a consequence that's bad for local businesses. As a result, the local hotel and restaurant federation is examining legal action against the bureau for what it calls the "unscientific" predictions. Good luck with that, guys.
