Town comes up short in quest for record-setting bikini parade
7/29/2012Maybe Minnesota wasn't the best place to go if you’re trying for the title of world's largest-ever bikini parade: Only 39 bikini-wearers showed up for the event in Madison Lake, Minn., despite organizers' hopes of topping 451, the record. The low attendance reportedly came after members of the Madison Lake City Council worried that the bikini event would detract from the larger Paddlefish Days Parade's wholesome image. One council member also contested the claims of organizer Cynthia Frederick, the owner of a local tanning-bed salon who was eager to somehow connect bikinis with tanning and the "the importance of preventing cancer with Vitamin D." That councilman, Chuck Ries, described Frederick's position as 'inconsistent with my understanding of the science." [Source]
