Toyota unveils bizarre couch-car creation in Beijing

5/1/2012

For those that consider a Segway to be a thrill-seeker's ride, Toyota has unveiled something called the i-REAL personal mobility concept at the 2012 Beijing auto show. The electric vehicle resembles a La-Z-Boy that sprouted wheels -- two in front, one in back -- and hugs its passenger from behind. The vehicle is controlled by dual joysticks and has "walking" and "cruising" drive modes. The i-REAL can go almost 19 miles on a single charge and boasts "a communication display capable of sending and receiving blogs and local information as well as sharing information with other i-REAL drivers." Which is exactly what we don't need: distracted i-REAL drivers competing with Rascal riders at the local Walmart.
