12/5/2012Gleeful twittering has erupted over news that the APA has revised its manual to no longer consider transgendered people as having a "disorder." From here on out, the American Psychiatric Association's guidebook will recognise "Gender Dysphoria" as the emotional stress that results from incongruence between your experienced and assigned gender, thereby removing the mental illness stigma. Not everyone expressed joy, though. One sarcastic commenter at Slate quipped, "I'm a one armed man trapped inside a two armed man's body. Doctors, please cut off my false identity arm," while another wrote, "It's still disorder, but they've been pressured to be politically correct." [Source]
