Travel site thinks Mac users are suckers who'll pay more

6/26/2012

If you're a Mac user booking a vacation, you might want to say "bon voyage" to Orbitz. The online travel agency learned that Mac users spend an average of 30 percent more than their PC-wielding counterparts, so the site is now producing higher-priced search results for them. This type of targeted marketing isn't new, but Orbitz's willingness to brag about it is, especially when it reads as "HAHA MAC USERS WILL THROW THEIR MONEY AT US!"

Note that Orbitz isn't offering Bill Gates loyalists better rates for the same rooms -- it's just making it easier for PC users to find them. That's cool, Mac-olytes: Expedia will look awesome on those new Retina displays.
