Tree house is a perfect retreat, if you don't mind trespassing

4/20/2012

A crafty young man built the ultimate tree house with his own hands, some design advice from his lovely girlfriend and wood scavenged off Craigslist. The uniquely circular design, described as an "egg in a tree," looks like a cross between a beehive and a wooden bubble and was meant as a secret, off-the-grid retreat. Well, secret until they submitted the tree house, called "the Hemloft," to popular design magazine Dwell. The Hemloft is built on crown land in Canada, so it's sort of like if someone built a tree house in Yosemite -- not exactly allowed. If found by authorities, Hemloft would probably be dismantled, but for now is still hidden deep in the forest, and the video is a vicarious retreat from the everyday.
