Passengers remain eerily calm after lightning sets their plane on fire
1/26/2013The flight from Izmir, Turkey, to Istanbul isn't a long one. The two cities are only a few hundred miles apart, but for passengers aboard a Turkish Airlines flight, their trip couldn't have been over soon enough after lightning hit the plane and ignited one of the engines. Dramatic YouTube footage shows the terrifying scene, and also highlights just how calm the people in the cabin remained — despite their plane being ON FIRE. The captain was able to activate the engine's auto-extinguishing equipment, and the plane managed to make a safe emergency landing without anyone being injured. However, there is no word on how many air-sick bags won't be returning to service. [Source]
