TV anchor decides to claim Philippines for China

In one of the more brazen acts of annexation in modern geopolitics, a Chinese anchor speaking on state-run TV claimed the independent nation of the Philippines for China. According to Time, the newscaster said, "We all know that the Philippines is China's inherent territory, and the Philippines belongs to Chinese sovereignty. This is an indisputable fact." The remark came while the two nations are embroiled in a showdown over the rights to a shoal in the South China Sea. Reports claim the anchor actually meant to say the shoal, not the entire Philippines, belongs to China, although the station hasn't commented. Probably not the best time for an apparently accidental slip of the tongue.
