BREAKING NEWS: 12 killed, dozens wounded in Colo. theater shooting

At least 12 people have been shot dead by a masked gunman at a movie theater outside Denver during a midnight screening of the new Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises." Around 50 others are reported to have been wounded or injured during the horrific scene that took place at a mall in the suburb of Aurora. Police said a suspect is in custody. Federal officials identified him as 24-year-old James Holmes, according to NBC News. He was reportedly wearing a gas mask when he opened fire and then set off a smoke or tear gas bomb.

Brenda Stuart of KOA radio told Britain's Sky News that "a lot of people thought the gunshots were part of the movie,” adding that bullets passed from one theater into the next one.
