You may have fewer precious characters in your tweets, starting now

2/20/2013

It's happened to bags of snack chips on the grocery shelves, and now it's happening to the snack chip of communication: Starting today, you'll be getting fewer characters in your tweets — at least if you need a link to make your tweet complete. The condensed links to pictures, stories and other Internet flotsam you love to include with your witty alerts will now take up a bit more space, so two characters worth of commentary has to go, leaving you with just 117 or 118 precious keystrokes. Tweets without links still have the 140-character ceiling, but you linking dinosaurs who have resisted using "2" for "to" now go on the endangered species list. [Source]
