It's a rare honor: the Ugliest Animal on Earth. Will it be the proboscis monkey, the Titicaca water frog or the almost-cartoonishly ugly blobfish? The contest is the work of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society and the U.K's National Science & Engineering Competition, and it's the first of its kind. The goal is to raise awareness about the number of ugly animals who need the same level of protection as their cuter counterparts. The winner will be the group's mascot and will be crowned by biologist Simon Watt at the British Science Festival next month. A few celebrities are backing the contest, including Stephen Fry, whose own vote was for the greater short-horned lizard. Check out the gallery above, and vote here.
