Uninsured drivers could be banned from buying gas
3/14/2012No auto insurance, no gas. That's the proposed plan in the U.K., where government officials have suggested that gas station CCTVs should scan license plates to confirm whether drivers are insured; if they're not, they won't be allowed to fill their tanks. According to The Mirror, uninsured drivers in the U.K. contribute to 160 road deaths and 23,000 injuries annually. Gas station owners are reportedly already uncomfortable with the proposal, as are insurance brokers. "What happens when someone has only just gotten insured?" the head of the British Insurance Brokers Association asked, referring to the seven-day delay in getting added to the database, "you could need gas within that time."
