Uptight school says teen can't wear kilt to prom

4/3/2012

19-year-old William Carruba enthusiastically ordered a kilt for his high school prom, made of his Scottish ancestors' tartan, a blue-and-green plaid. While Carruba's prom date supported his plans, school officials in Granite City, Ill. weren't quite as enthusiastic, and said he couldn't wear the kilt. Carruba's principal reportedly said that men should dress like men at the prom, while the school superintendent said, "We must adhere to our (dress) policy," which bans "nontraditional" garb, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Carruba says he'll now be wearing pants.
