Granny banned from dialing 911 after making $1 million worth of calls

1/16/2013

Valerie Dawn Gough has to be the lifetime winner of the "Boy Who Cried Wolf" award. The Australian grandmother has been banned from calling 000 — the Aussie version of 911 — after she rang emergency services more than 1,000 times over a five-year period. Prosecutors at her court appearance said that Gough's repeated calls cost Australian taxpayers about $1 million. Despite receiving numerous warnings and letters designed to curb her dumb-dialing, Gough continued to press triple-0, sometimes up to 10 times a day. She was found guilty of "the improper use of an emergency call service." If something should happen to Gough, a family member is allowed to call for help on her behalf. [Source]
