Mayor of Serbian village warns of vampire — no, really

11/29/2012

Good luck finding garlic in western Serbia. The citizens of Zarozje have bought bulb after bulb, putting it on their doors and windows in the hopes it will keep a vampire away. No, really. Mayor Miodrag Vujetic issued an official warning about a vampire named Sava Savanic, encouraging everyone to display crosses in their windows (in addition to their garlicky displays). The panic began after the old mill where Savanovic reportedly lived (or lives?) collapsed, which means he's pissed and homeless and taking it out on local residents. "People are worried, everybody knows the legend of this vampire," Vujetic says. "We are all frightened." [Source]
