2/27/2013Weird food preparations — say, chicken Kiev foam and pine nut marshmallows — have been staples on high-end menus since the molecular gastronomy fad hit restaurants worldwide. The Vaportini takes the trend one step further: It's a bourbon that you never even get to drink; you only inhale bourbon fumes that are heated over a small flame. Chicago restaurateur and inventor Julie Palmer was inspired by a trip to a sauna in Helsinki, when a friend threw vodka on heated coals and everyone could get loaded off the fumes. The Vaportini is now available at Palmer's Red Kiva lounge in the city's West Loop, and she's looking to sell it to bars nationwide. [Source]
