Artist breaks 16 years of vegetarianism to learn rat recipes

8/5/2012

Filet mignon? Yes. Lobster? Definitely. But this just might be the first time a vegetarian has flipped for rat meat. Artist Laura Ginn has made the ultimate sacrifice for her ongoing project about survival skills. After blazing a trail in skinning and tanning rat pelts – she even made a dress – Ginn broke her 16 years of vegetarianism to work on rat-meat recipes. She reports that rat meat, not uncommon fare in some parts of the world, is time-consuming to prepare and tastes "gamey." The interview ends with a surprisingly simple, if not quick, recipe for rat jerky. We are officially prepared for the apocalypse. [Source]
