Venezuelan prez gives away other people's stuff on Twitter
6/2/2012Here's your occasional reminder that Venezuela is shockingly corrupt. Nineteen-year-old Natalia Valdivieso won a new home after she became President Hugo Chavez' three millionth Twitter follower, even if it wasn't really Chavez' to give away. "My beloved president saw my need and helped me," she tweeted, but an anti-Chavez blogger reported that the government, not Chavez, had paid for the home. He called the gift "intolerable," and said the strongman was "shamelessly giving charity to those who follow him." That seems about right for Chavez, who's up for 'election' in October. We like our feel-good stories a little less oily, thanks.
It's corrupt, but is it cool?
