Sure, Mardi Gras has beads and beer, but does it have a flying angel? Check out 20-year-old student Marta Finotto at this year's Venice Carnival (through Feb. 12) with the death-defying "Flight of the Angel" Sunday. This stunt isn't for wimps with vertigo: The red-and-black-clad daredevil descended from the 325-foot-high St. Mark's Basilica bell tower to a stage below. If you'd rather keep your eyes on the ground, the city is brimming with costume-clad visitors and locals sporting over-the-top masks, feathers and ruffles, just as they have for centuries. Flip through our gallery for a virtual visit.
