Couple concedes 40 pigs at home may be a bit too much to handle

Though the concept of keeping a pig as a pet is not entirely unheard of (remember George Clooney’s late pig Max?), this Vermont couple seems to have taken it a little too far. Earlier this month, Essex town officials ordered Florence Gruber and Alan Tsefrekas to remove by Jan. 22 the 30 to 40 pigs that were sharing their home. The order came following complaints from neighbors. In fact, this is the second time in a year that the couple has faced actions against their, um, choice of companions (they were earlier forced to leave their New Jersey home). However, this time, it seems that the couple got the message that perhaps 40 or so pigs under one roof was too much, with Gruber acknowledging that living with so many pigs had impacted her respiratory system and that the animals have taken over her life.
