Some Vermont restaurants add a foreigner charge8/28/2012
Some restaurants in Burlington, Vt., are taking action against what they say are cheapskates flocking south from Canada. Oh, and those stingy Europeans, too. Foreign visitors (and even residents who choose to converse in a foreign language) to Vermont’s largest city apparently have established reputations as bad tippers, causing some restaurants there to allow their servers to add gratuities to checks. Part of the problem might be cultural – in Canada and Europe tips are generally included in restaurant bills, and visitors from those places might assume the same is done in the U.S. [Source]
Should restaurants be allowed to do this?
