Veterans hopping mad over bunny statue next to memorial
6/16/2012Hmm, what comes to mind when we think of bunnies? Spring, carrots, cottontails...none of which seem very appropriate for something as somber as a war memorial. Perhaps that explains the controversy caused by the huge, glossy fiberglass rabbit that's recently been erected right next to a veteran's memorial in Dedham, Mas. The local veteran's group thinks the public art sculpture that looks like a floppy-eared bunny (and is titled "Peace") is inappropriate, even though it was made by a veteran. They protest that the bunny belongs in a children's park, not alongside a stark reminder of lives given defending our nation from its enemies. A public hearing is planned Monday.
Is it inappropriate to put this bunny sculpture right next to a war memorial?
