Watch Bill Clinton's rousing defense of Barack Obama at the DNC

9/6/2012

If you watched the Cowboys defeat the Giants instead of tuning into the Democratic National Convention, you missed Bill Clinton's speech — all 48-and-a-half minutes of it. Slick Willie turned the charm up to full wattage, reveling in the crowd's cheers and ad-libbing on prepared remarks more and more as his speech wore on. Vowing to "keep President Obama on the job," the former prez injected a healthy dose of budget and tax "arithmetic" into his speech, and criticized Republicans for living in an "alternative universe" and wanting to go back to their "same old" failed policies. Clinton praised Obama for creating "4.5 million" jobs while condemning congressional Republicans for creating "zero," and attacked Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan's promise to repeal Obamacare. He also praised Obama as a man who had "the good sense to marry Michelle Obama." Her husband didn't seem to mind that Clinton had his eye on the first lady: The presidents united in an embrace when the speech (eventually) ended.
