DC mayor says Redskins should change its very racist name already

1/10/2013

In the unlikely event the Washington Redskins decide to leave their suburban digs for a stadium actually located in D.C., the District's mayor has a suggestion — lose the blatantly racist nickname. Mayor Vincent Gray said today that in the event that a serious discussion about a return to Washington took place, changing the franchise's name (Gray called it a "lightning rod") would be among the conditions. The rich white men who previously owned the team (Jack Kent Cooke) and currently own it (Daniel Snyder) have refused for decades to change the moniker, which is, as you might have noticed, a racial slur.
