GOP blamed for letting Violence Against Women Act expire
1/3/2013This accusation probably isn't going to do the GOP's reputation among women any favors: House Republicans have been blamed for letting the Violence Against Women Act expire, meaning it doesn't exist for the first time since it was signed into law in 1994. Members of the party reportedly insisted the bill is too friendly to immigrants, the LGBT community and Native Americans, groups who were added to the bill by the Senate in April. "The House Republican leadership's failure to take up and pass the Senate's bipartisan and inclusive VAWA bill is inexcusable," said Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) in a statement that blasted "the politics of the right wing of their party." [Source]
