Lauri Ulvestad, of Ames, Iowa, had the road-trip story of a lifetime after her Kia Sorento's accelerator floored itself while she was driving home from Kansas City. She reportedly tried slamming on the brakes, turning off the car, applying the emergency brake, and shifting out of drive to no avail. She dialed 911 and troopers caught up with her to clear traffic and assist her, recording everything on their dashboard camera. Finally, the troopers' suggestion to lift up on the accelerator while applying the brake ended the 35-minute, 59-mile episode. The adrenaline-filled incident even infected the KMBC anchor introducing the story, who sounded as if he was calling the final lap of the Indy 500. [Source]
