Wal-Mart workers' second strike in five days spreads to nine states
10/9/2012The bad news got worse today for Wal-Mart. On Oct. 4, employees at several stores in California staged a walkout, the first such incident in the company’s 50-year history. Today, workers not just in California, but also Texas, Washington, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, Florida, Kentucky and Minnesota went on strike. Some workers are also planning to demonstrate on Wednesday outside Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., when the company hosts its annual investor meeting. The strikes are the latest in a battle against the company’s fierce decades-long resistance to organized labor. OUR Wal-Mart, a group of employees behind the strikes, is campaigning for improved work conditions, benefits and wages. [Source]
