Warning: 'Internet doomsday' is set to hit Monday
7/5/2012Beware. "Internet doomsday" approacheth. Hundreds of thousands of computer users around the world are set to lose Web access on Monday, July 9, thanks to a malicious computer virus created by an Estonian crime ring called DNS Changer. At its peak, the virus, spread through an online ad scam, affected more than 500,000 Macs and PCs worldwide. The FBI came to the rescue in November 2011, setting up a temporary fix that, alas, will expire Monday, leaving those who have not rid themselves of the virus - an estimated 277,000 computers - vulnerable to its effects. Google and Facebook are also warning users they believe may be infected. You can also check on a website set up by the FBI: http://www.dcwg.org.
