Polygamist sect leader jealous of Mayans gets in on doomsday action

Law enforcement officials are keeping tabs on followers of Warren Jeffs, the jailed polygamist leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Authorities fear the sect may take dramatic action after Jeffs predicted the world's end by Jan. 1. Jeffs is "indicating that by the end of [2012], the end of the world will be here," a private investigator who has represented former FLDS members told CNN. The only grocery store in one of the areas settled by Jeffs' followers has abruptly closed, further heightening concern about potential mass casualties and prompting comparisons to Jim Jones and David Koresh.
