Washington, D.C., drivers ranked the crashiest in big-city America
8/29/2012Be careful when driving the streets of Washington, D.C. That city's drivers have once again been ranked the most accident-prone of all the large cities in America. Insurance company Allstate surveyed claims data and found that drivers in the nation's capital get in an accident every 4.7 years. The safest city was Sioux Fall, S.D., which saw drivers going an average of 13.8 years between accidents. The report doesn't say exactly why D.C. drivers get in so many wrecks, but the Transportation Department still considers things like texting, talking on the phone, eating and tweaking the radio as the top distractions that can lead to an accident.
