Watch Jim Henson's original, prophetic 'Muppet Show' pitch

We all knew Jim Henson was brilliant, but in this video of his original pitch to CBS for "The Muppet Show," his creativity is on mega display. With a Muppet (of course) presenting his pitch, Henson lays out the show's characters, building intensity as he describes something for everyone: cute and cuddly characters for the kids, symbolism for the "intellectual eggheads," and cool, long-haired Muppets for the "freaky cynical hippies." As the music crescendos, he declares that this fusion of interests is "what show business is all about."

"When this show hits," Henson adds prophetically toward the end, "The careers of the men who made the decision to put this show on the air will skyrocket."
