Watch these scientists make Easter Island heads walk
6/22/2012After nearly 300 years of creative guessing, scientists think they've sussed out how the gargantuan Easter Island statues traveled from the quarry where they were carved to their lookouts all over the island. They walked! Well, probably not by themselves ... Check out the video showing the statues ambling with some help from their friends. The scientists developed this theory after noting that the massive works -- some as tall as 33 feet and weighing more than 80 tons -- were perfectly engineered to rock along on their front edge. But many still believe a spiritual force animated them and they walked by themselves. "The experts can say whatever they want," says one local. "But we know the truth. The statues walked."
How do you think the statues traveled?
