Anyone who's visited New York City — or pretty much any metropolis with an underground rail system — has probably thought: "I wonder if I could jump across the tracks and make it to that subway platform on the other side?" Most of us are prevented from testing the theory by either laziness or a lame fear of being hit by an oncoming train.
