Water now tops soda as Americans' favorite drink

Soda, thy menacing overlord of the American diet, you have been cast aside. Once the favored libation of the increasingly obese masses, soda has been flushed from its perch atop America’s beverage cart by an old standby. One with a long history as a popular, life-sustaining and free (cost-wise and calorically) beverage: water. For the first time in two decades, water is the most popular beverage in the U.S. Americans now chug an average of 58 gallons of agua a year compared to 44 gallons of fizzy fructose-filled fluids. That’s a significant drop from 1998, the height of soda’s popularity, in which Americans guzzled 54 gallons annually. [Source]
