'19 degrees of Web pages' is just as good as Kevin Bacon, study says

It turns out the supposedly vast information superhighway is smaller than you think. In fact, almost every Web page can be connected to any other one in 19 clicks or less, new research proves. The newly tested phenomenon is kind of like playing "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," or that game where you multiply any number by nine and the answers add back up to nine. In other words: freaky mathematical connections. The concept isn't new — Internet nerds have been floating the "19 clicks" theory for years — but a paper published Monday by Hungarian physicist Albert-László Barabási marks the first time a large-scale investigation has supported it.
