Heaven protect the next middle-aged weekend warrior who lines up at a road race next to these two tiny blond girls, because they are about to destroy his ego. Kaytlynn, 12, and Heather, 10 — collectively known as the Welsch sisters — are the talk of the running community, both for their outsize success and their incredibly tender ages. Critics have asked if their long-distance training is too much, too soon, and wondered aloud about the wisdom of their father Rodney, who has encouraged his daughters' punishing exploits when most kids their age are, at best, walking laps at the mall.
