We're sorry, but Americans are becoming less polite

​Please read this. Was that so hard? Most Americans think so -- that is, we are more ill-mannered than we used to be. A 2011 poll found that 76 percent of Americans believe our society is becoming more rude. Anecdotal evidence confirms this finding, says manners expert Lisa Gache, who believes we are less inclined to say "please," "thank you" or "you're welcome," because of how casual we've become. Meanwhile, "etiquette maven" Cindy Post Senning (Emily Post's great-grandaughter) said that "principles of respect, consideration and honesty are universal and timeless," but our idea of what's mannerly changes.
