Mixed reactions as military chapel hosts first same-sex wedding
12/2/2012Cadet Chapel in West Point, N.Y., has long been a sacred space for military folk to marry. But on Saturday it made history by hosting two brides — together. Penelope Gnesin and Brenda Sue Fulton (a West Point graduate) exchanged vows during the first-ever same-sex wedding at the Gothic church, news that sparked a mixture of reactions online. Twitter user @MikkoAlanne wrote, "Awesome & historic!" while @senjoreilly said, "No no--this is just sick." Tweep @cdespinosa called it a "Milestone" as @TheOtherWyatt tweeted," US MILITARY SUFFERS DEVASTATING DEFEAT." The lesbian couple of 17 years infused military traditions into the ceremony, including a customary saber arch. Milestones, indeed. [Source]
