Citizens petition to officially declare Westboro Baptist a hate group
12/16/2012On Saturday, the Westboro Baptist Church (of "God hates fags" fame) tweeted plans to picket burials of Sandy Hook shooting victims, in order "to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment." (We have no clue what sort of "glory" can be inferred from the violent deaths of 20 young children, but hey, maybe that's just us.) The hacker group Anonymous didn't like Westboro's plan, and apparently everyday Americans don't, either. More than 33,000 citizens have signed a petition on WhiteHouse.gov asking President Obama to legally recognize the Topeka, Kan.,-based church as a hate group that poses a "threat to the welfare ... of others and will not improve without imposed regulation."
