Monks selling 'world's best beer' in stores for first, and last, time
12/12/2012Every thirsty drinker knows the best beer is the one in your hand. Nevertheless, brew snobs have anointed Westvleteren XII as the world's finest, in no small part because of its scarcity. Made by Trappist monks in Belgium, it's available only at the abbey, and by reservation. But now Saint Sixtus needs money to fix up the crumbling monastery, so the monks have ramped up production for what's likely to be a one-time-only commercial sale in the United States — at a cool $84.99 a sixer. Ah, but that includes two glasses from the monastery, which you can refill later with Natty Light, since that's all you'll be able to afford. [Source]
