Wet, raw footage shows how baby icebergs are made

6/1/2012

When a daddy glacier and a slightly warmer mommy ocean love each other very much, the glacier slides gently into the water's briny depths. A loud crack is heard and, moments later, a baby iceberg is born. This footage of Argentina's Upsalla glacier "calving" was taken by holidaymakers as they toured the region by catamaran. While this sort of thing happens fairly regularly, it's rare for it to be captured on video. Glaciers are quite shy.
