Rescued beached whale dies in treatment in Florida

9/4/2012

Here's a dollop of depressing animal news: A young male whale that was part of a pod of rescued beached pilot whales has died. Since Saturday, the rescued whales have been undergoing treatment at Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Institute after being stranded on a Florida beach. Unfortunately, though, a number of the creatures have already died, either by natural causes or because they had to be euthanized. Four of the other whales from the same pod are still kicking and will, we hope, be successfully rehabilitated and able to swim out the rest of their days.[Source]
