Bottle of White House beer fetches $1,200 at auction

If President Obama handed you a beer from his own White-House-brewed stash, what would you do with it? Minnesota resident Brad Magerkurth considered that question carefully after the president gifted him a single bottle of his coveted White House Honey Ale in August at an Iowa campaign stop. Magerkurth decided to auction it off for charity, and 10 people forked over a total of $1,200 to share the unlabeled 12-ounce bottle in an onstage ceremony at the University of Minnesota. Magerkurth said the school's marching band played 'Hail to the Chief,' and "then we cracked open the beer." He plans to donate the money to the university's children's hospital.
