Dogs are the new national religion, according to Obamas' holiday card

12/11/2012

If you're hoping for a picture of baby Jesus in a manger for the White House's "Christmas" card, you're out of luck. The Obamas have opted for a less traditional illustration, instead showing their Portuguese water dog, Bo, prancing on a snowy landscape. The image is entirely controversy-free, unless you're a soldier in the War on Christmas — like Fox News' Todd Starnes, who notes that "the 2012 card made no mention of any specific holiday nor did it include a Bible verse noting the birth of Christ." Starnes left out that Bo was the star of the Obamas' 2011 card, too, and that even George W. "Born-Again" Bush generally eschewed overtly religious content, instead showing wrapped gifts or other more secularly themed holiday scenes.
