White House gets schooled for 'Amererican' Facebook gaffe

7/27/2012

Looks like someone on the White House social media team should head back to school. Or at least learn to use spell-check. A Facebook post trumpeting a presidential education initiative misspelled both "Americans" and "initiative," a decidedly humiliating twofer. "Earlier today, President Obama signed an Executive Order establishing the White House Initiatve on Educational Excellence for African Amerericans," the post declared.

The misspellings were corrected, but not quickly enough to stop the ridicule. "I don't want to hear any more talk that @BarackObama is somehow un-Amererican," quipped one tweep. Before the Romney camp jumps all over this and tries to school the prez, though, it should remember Exhibit A: its own "Amercia" iPhone app gaffe. [Source]

Is there any excuse for the White House social media team to make this typo?
